Cultivating Creativity and Healthy Expression
Process or Product?  What shall it be?

There is a lot of debate in the world of education about art instruction and if the instruction that a child receives in art should be product or process oriented.  At Manzanita Bilingual we believe that art should derive from within and carry the message and feelings of the child.  We believe in art is a form of expression and therefore do not explicitly teach a product with the expectation that an art piece should have a specific outcome.

However, we also believe that skills can be taught explicitly that will facilitate a child's ability to express their thoughts and feelings.  Therefore, we provide instruction and examples for students that support the development of artistic skills such as how to use scissors, how to tear, how to glue, and how use different media.

We make art because there is something inside the creative person that wants to get out.
